ECG Planned Maintenance Announcement
“The ECG has advised residents and businesses within that corridor to plan accordingly for the eight-hour disruption,” a spokesperson stated regarding the upcoming maintenance.
The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has scheduled maintenance works across four operational regions on March 10, 2026. This planned maintenance aims to upgrade infrastructure, which will result in power outages in several communities.
Outages are set to begin at 9:00 am and will vary in duration by region. In the Accra West Region, maintenance will focus on Anyaa Deeper Life and surrounding neighborhoods, while the Accra East Region will experience outages affecting Neoplan Circle, East Legon, Chez Afrique, and Teiman Township.
In the Central Region, power is expected to be restored by 4:00 pm, impacting communities such as Senya township, Fetteh township, Ojobi, and Bonsuoku. The Tema Region will face outages from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, affecting areas like Jericho, Roman Down, and Aqua Safari resort.
Context of Cable Theft
In a related development, the Ghana Police Service has been actively addressing the issue of cable theft that has significantly affected electricity supply across communities and businesses. On March 4, 2026, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) recovered over 100 tonnes of stolen ECG cables in Tema and arrested 10 suspects.
During the raid at Central Company in the Kpone Industrial Area, seventy workers were found cutting and stripping ECG service cables. “The volume and condition of the recovered cables indicate a sustained and systematic operation targeting ECG infrastructure,” noted COP Donkor.
He further emphasized, “Theft and illegal export of ECG cables have directly affected electricity supply across communities, businesses, and public institutions.” The Ghana Police Service will continue working with relevant state agencies to protect national assets and bring perpetrators to justice.
The maintenance exercises are part of ongoing efforts to enhance service reliability and strengthen the stability of the grid, ensuring that future disruptions are minimized.
