“This is a resounding result and it gives us great strength. It makes us unstoppable. No one will stop us. Exciting years lie ahead. They will be the best of our lives,” stated Joan Laporta following his re-election as president of FC Barcelona.
Laporta secured a significant victory with 32,934 votes, representing 68.18% of the total votes cast. His main rival, Víctor Font, garnered 14,385 votes or 29.78% of the vote, while there were 984 blank votes accounting for 2.04%.
This marks Laporta’s return to the presidency, having previously served from 2003 to 2010 and again since March 2021. His leadership is seen as pivotal in navigating the club through challenging times.
In a statement reflecting on the club’s unique democratic process, Laporta remarked, “This is a wonderful club, where the members elect their president and their board of directors. A club unique in the world, truly extraordinary.”
As the club looks to the future, it faces immediate challenges on the pitch. Goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen is currently injured and is expected to be sidelined for nearly four months.
Meanwhile, head coach Hansi Flick is preparing to rotate the squad for upcoming matches against Sevilla and Newcastle United. This strategic approach aims to manage player fitness and performance effectively.
Young talent Lamine Yamal was notably absent from the starting XI during a recent training session, raising questions about his fitness and readiness for upcoming fixtures.
In an effort to adapt the squad, Ferran Torres has been tested in a central role during training, likely allowing star striker Robert Lewandowski some much-needed rest.
With Laporta’s leadership and strategic squad management, FC Barcelona aims to build on its recent successes and tackle the challenges ahead as they strive for glory in both domestic and European competitions.
