GES Teachers Recruitment Portal Launches for 2026

Trained teachers have historically concentrated in urban centres while rural and hard-to-reach communities remain chronically understaffed. In response to this ongoing issue, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has launched its official recruitment portal for trained teachers seeking employment. This initiative is aimed at streamlining the application process for university graduates, College of Education graduates, and diploma holders.

The recruitment portal, which opened on April 10, 2026, will remain active until April 17, 2026. It is designed to manage applications for approximately 7,000 teaching positions available across the country. The GES has emphasized that applicants must have completed their national service and possess a valid National Service Certificate, as well as having passed the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination and holding a valid NTC Teacher Licensure Certificate.

Daniel Fenyi, a representative from the GES, stated, “Applicants must be in good standing with the National Teaching Council and possess a valid Teaching License.” This requirement underscores the importance of maintaining professional standards within the teaching profession. Furthermore, the recruitment process is merit-based and transparent, with the GES warning against the involvement of middlemen or unauthorized agents.

The recruitment specifically targets graduates from the 2023, 2024, and 2025 cohorts, reflecting a concerted effort to address the staffing shortages in the education sector. Successful candidates will receive official appointment letters and will be posted based on their subject specialization and regional preferences. However, the GES has made it clear that teachers must be prepared to accept postings in deprived districts, which have long faced challenges in attracting qualified educators.

The explicit requirement on deprived district postings reflects a long-standing structural challenge in Ghana’s education system. Observers note that this move is crucial in ensuring that all regions, particularly those that are underserved, receive the educational support they need. Successful applicants are also expected to demonstrate strong communication and classroom management skills, which are essential for effective teaching.

In addition to the aforementioned qualifications, applicants must submit several documents, including academic certificates, their National Service Certificate, the NTC licence, a Ghana Card, and a passport-sized photograph. The introduction of the centralized recruitment portal aims to digitize the teacher employment process, making it more efficient and accessible for potential candidates.

As the application window progresses, the GES is hopeful that this initiative will lead to a more balanced distribution of teachers across the country, particularly in areas that have been historically underserved. The recruitment portal represents a significant step towards enhancing the quality of education in Ghana by ensuring that qualified teachers are placed where they are most needed.
