Ghana Air Force Receives New Airbus H175 Helicopter
“The H175 helicopter is expected to join the existing fleet of the Ghana Air Force and will support a range of critical operations, including medical evacuation, humanitarian assistance, and search-and-rescue missions,” stated a representative from the Ghana Air Force.
This acquisition, which took place on March 5, 2026, marks a pivotal moment for the Ghana Air Force as it received its first Airbus H175 helicopter from France. The helicopter was welcomed with a water cannon salute upon its arrival at the Air Force Base in Accra, highlighting the significance of this addition to the fleet.
The H175 helicopter is part of a broader fleet modernization program that has been approved by Parliament. This initiative reflects Ghana’s commitment to enhancing its operational capabilities and national security. The helicopter will play a crucial role in various operations, including search and rescue, medical evacuations, and humanitarian assistance.
With a maximum take-off weight (MTOW) of 7.8 tonnes and a payload capacity of approximately 3 tonnes, the H175 is designed for versatility and efficiency. It boasts a cruise speed of 165 knots and a range of 635 nautical miles, making it suitable for a variety of missions.
Additionally, the ACH175 model features seating for 17 troops and has dimensions of 15.68 meters in length, 5.34 meters in height, and 3.35 meters in width. This makes it a capable platform for transporting personnel and equipment during operations.
The acquisition of the Airbus H175 is part of a larger defense procurement initiative that includes plans for additional helicopters and a Dassault Falcon 6X aircraft. This strategic move is expected to significantly improve the endurance and rapid response capabilities of the Ghana Air Force.
