Bayern Munich has officially announced the permanent signing of midfielder Bara Sapoko Ndiaye from Gambinos Stars. The Senegal international, who is 18, has signed a professional contract with the club until 30 June 2031.
Ndiaye initially joined Bayern Munich on loan in the second half of last season. During this period, he made four competitive appearances, which helped solidify his claim for a permanent transfer. He had already reported to Bayern Munich and participated in pre-season matches before finalizing his deal.
Sporting director Christoph Freund commented on Ndiaye’s integration, stating that the player quickly adapted to his new environment at FC Bayern and earned the team’s acceptance. Freund described Ndiaye as a great footballer who relies on his dynamism and speed on the ball as a central midfielder. He also noted Ndiaye’s impressive progress over the past 24 months and his ability to speak German.
Ndiaye’s journey to Bayern Munich began with his training at Gambinos Stars Africa, a football academy in Gambia. This academy has been in cooperation with Red&Gold Football since 2023. Red&Gold Football is a joint venture between FC Bayern and Los Angeles Football Club.
Jochen Sauer, director of youth development and managing director of Red&Gold Football, highlighted Ndiaye as an embodiment of their long-term development approach. This approach focuses on providing international talents with an optimal environment in their home countries, offering trial training sessions in Europe, and creating a platform for them to transition into professional football. Sauer expressed satisfaction in gaining an excellent character for the club and a good ambassador for Red&Gold.
Ndiaye himself expressed his joy, calling it a very big day for him and his family. He stated his desire to learn from the players at FC Bayern and to help the team, describing the move as a dream come true. He also hopes to be an example to other young players, including his former teammates at Gambinos Stars, demonstrating that it is possible to reach one of the biggest teams globally.
Ndiaye’s Impact and Future Role
During his loan spell in the second half of the 2025-26 season, Ndiaye made his senior debut in April. He concluded the campaign with four Bundesliga appearances, which included two starts and two appearances as a substitute. These performances occurred as Bayern secured their second consecutive league title under coach Vincent Kompany.
His performances also led to his inclusion in Senegal’s World Cup squad, where he made one substitute appearance. This appearance was in their 3-2 extra-time defeat to Belgium in the round of 32.
Ndiaye has left a positive impression on both the team and fans. While primarily a central midfielder, he has already played in other positions during the pre-season, suggesting flexibility in his role. Coach Vincent Kompany is reportedly committed to a more flexible rotation this season, which could lead to more playing minutes for Ndiaye.
The permanent move, which was reportedly planned from the outset, faced delays due to an unclear advisory situation and organizational difficulties. In the upcoming season, Ndiaye is expected to fill the fourth squad spot in defensive midfield. Ndiaye’s hometown club, Gambinos Stars, is part of the Gambinos Group, which operates three football academies in Africa. The majority shareholder of the Gambinos Group is Red&Gold Football, the joint venture between Bayern Munich and Los Angeles FC. Red&Gold also collaborates with clubs in Uruguay, Ecuador, and South Korea.
Jochen Sauer, who serves as managing director of Red&Gold Football, is also the director of youth development at Bayern Munich. This dual role highlights the integrated approach to scouting and developing young talent through the partnership.
Before his initial loan move last winter, Ndiaye participated in several trial training sessions at Bayern Munich. This long-term observation and development strategy is central to the Red&Gold Football initiative, aiming to nurture top international talents and provide them with pathways to professional football.
Ndiaye is the third summer signing for Bayern Munich, following Nathaniel Brown and Ismael Saibari, both signed for 50 million euros each. The club’s focus has now reportedly shifted to selling returning loanees, including Joao Palhinha, Sacha Boey, and Bryan Zaragoza. Bayern is scheduled to face RB Leipzig in their final pre-season friendly on Sunday, followed by a match against Borussia Dortmund in the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup the following week.
