Cameroon midfielder Naomi Eto has expressed her team’s determination ahead of their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) quarter-final match against Nigeria. Eto, who is making her debut in the continental tournament, stated that Cameroon will “give everything on the pitch” in the upcoming fixture.
Eto, who previously featured in the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia, is experiencing her first WAFCON. Cameroon recently secured the top spot in Group D after a 1-1 draw against Cape Verde in Casablanca. In that match, Eto was involved in a dangerous run down the wing, which led to Grace Mendoua scoring to give Cameroon the lead in the 28th minute. Cape Verde equalized early in the second half through Ivania Moreira.
A potential go-ahead goal for Cameroon by Michaela-Batya Abam was disallowed after a VAR review for a foul. Eto also had a late opportunity, but her strike was cleared. The draw was sufficient for Cameroon to finish first in their group with seven points from three matches.
The upcoming quarter-final match between Cameroon and Nigeria is scheduled for August 9 at 17:00 GMT, and will take place at Stade Larbi Zaouli.
Ghana also advanced to the quarter-finals from Group D, finishing second with four points after a 1-1 draw against Mali. Mali, despite also having four points, was eliminated on goal difference, while Cape Verde concluded their first WAFCON campaign with one point.
