Ghana’s independence was celebrated for the 69th time in 2026, marking a significant milestone in the nation’s history. The theme for this year’s celebration was ‘Building Prosperity, Restore Hope’, reflecting the aspirations of the Ghanaian people.
On March 6, 2026, President John Dramani Mahama addressed the gathering in Accra, emphasizing the importance of unity and progress as the country approaches its 70th anniversary of independence next year. He stated, “As we approach the milestone of Ghana’s 70th anniversary next year, let us reaffirm our national vision.”
First Lady Lordina Mahama was present at the Independence Day celebration, underscoring her role in supporting national initiatives and community welfare. The event also featured Dr Terrance Michael Drew, Prime Minister of Saint Kitts and Nevis, as the special guest of honour.
During the celebration, President Mahama took a moment to share a heartfelt birthday message for Lordina Mahama on social media, wishing her blessings on her special day.
