Ecg power outages volta oti

The power outages in the Volta and Oti Regions are a result of a significant fire at a key transmission facility. This incident has severely impacted electricity supply and forced Ghana to halt exports. The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) announced these outages on April 27, 2026.

The fire occurred at the Akosombo substation operated by the Ghana Grid Company Limited. It has reduced power supply to affected regions, prompting temporary load shedding. Power will be curtailed between 12:00 pm and 6:00 pm.

Key facts:

  • The fire incident has led to reported outages in parts of Accra due to a technical challenge at Dansoman.
  • Affected areas include Adidome Township, Akyemfo, Mafi Anfoe, among others.
  • The incident has forced Ghana to suspend electricity exports to neighboring countries.

ECG stated, “Due to the fire outbreak at GRIDCo’s substation at Akosombo which has reduced power supply, power supply will be curtailed.” They also noted that normal power supply will resume once the technical challenge is resolved.

Officials have indicated that affected customers should note that power supply will be restored immediately once the voltage profile improves. The disruptions at Akosombo are having widespread effects due to its central role in transmitting power across the country and beyond.
