Antoine Semenyo has chosen to represent Ghana in international football. The decision comes ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he will feature for the Black Stars.
Semenyo, born in London to Ghanaian parents, has made 34 appearances for Ghana, scoring three goals since his debut in 2022. His first competitive goal came on March 23, 2023, against Angola.
He described his choice as “such an easy decision.” His father supported this decision wholeheartedly. “My dad was so happy. He was celebrating and saying, ‘Yeah, you don’t play for England!’” Semenyo stated.
Despite being born in England, Semenyo felt a strong connection to Ghana. He noted that he was never really in the England rankings like that anyway.
Ghana is drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama for the upcoming tournament. They will face England in their second group match on June 23, 2026.
Semenyo plays for Bournemouth in the English Premier League. He is considered one of Ghana’s key attacking figures.
His father played in Ghana’s top flight and alongside notable player Tony Yeboah. This heritage influences Semenyo’s commitment to representing Ghana.
