Ecg afram plains power restoration

On April 30, 2026, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) successfully restored power to Afram Plains after a major outage caused by damage to a marine cable. The fault occurred about 400 metres into the River Afram, cutting off electricity to the entire Donkorkrom District.

The outage affected the entire Donkorkrom District. Engineers used boats and community divers to retrieve sections of the submerged cable for repair. They employed standard cable joints due to the absence of specialised marine joints.

A temporary wharf was constructed to protect the repaired section of the cable. Charles Nii Ayiku Ayiku, an ECG official, stated, “Our initial checks confirmed a serious fault on the marine cable, which made it impossible to transmit power across the river.”

Moses Tangbe, the District Chief Executive for Afram Plains South, assisted in resolving the challenge. Dr. Ayiku praised this intervention, highlighting its importance in expediting repairs.

ECG apologised to customers for the inconvenience caused by the outage. Power has now been fully restored to Afram Plains.

Officials expect that these repairs will prevent similar outages in the future. The community’s involvement proved crucial in addressing this significant issue.
