Prempeh College Land Compensation Remains Unresolved

“Repeated efforts to retrieve the funds have yielded no results,” said Louis Asare, headmaster of Prempeh College. The school is owed GH¢1,053,230 by the Government of Ghana for land used in the construction of the Sofoline Interchange.

The compensation was promised in 2013 but remains unpaid as of April 2026. Prempeh College has written at least four formal letters regarding this issue. However, the school has received only verbal assurances from officials.

The matter was discussed during a sitting of the Public Accounts Committee on April 22, 2026. William Kwame Amankrah, the Ashanti Regional Director of Education, assured that he would escalate the issue to the Ashanti Regional Minister.

MP Frank Yeboah urged swift action. “Education Director, do something about it to make sure that Prempeh College gets its fair share,” he stated emphatically.

Yet, despite these discussions, no concrete actions have been taken. The ongoing situation raises concerns about Ghana education funding and its impact on institutions like Prempeh College.

The lack of resolution affects not only the college but also sets a precedent for other educational institutions facing similar challenges. The government’s failure to address this matter may hinder urban roads development projects in the region.

As it stands, Prempeh College’s long-standing claim for land compensation remains unresolved. Officials have not provided a clear timeline for when or if payment will be made.
